Exterior Features, Quality:

Offered in 2001 as a LE, Ford's F-150 Harley is a tough truck. It's also the second-largest model in my collection (after the Sunstar Limo). What separates it from stock F-150 SuperCrews is the lowered suspension, orange stripes, special logos, larger wheels, and the list goes on and on...So, you ask, is the Ertl something special as well? Well, yes and no. Ertl let the cost-cutting gremlins do their business in many aspects of this model - the lights of the car are really cheesy - most are actually painted over. The wheels are shiny, and well modeled, with an etched Harley Davidson logo, but the tires are generic. Lastly, the license plate is crooked, and not applied well. But, besides those points, the rest of the exterior is pretty good. The paint is rich and no orange peel is present, and the grille looks like it came off a much more expensive model. The coolest thing about this truck is how big it is. Compared with the Maisto Ford Explorer Sport Trac, it looks downright humongous. After further investigations, it was revealed that this model was close to 1/18, but the Sport Trac came up to more than 1/19.

Interior Features, Quality:

Looks like the interior was not what Ertl focused on. The seats are plasticky and unrealistic, and the floor isn't anything special either. The panel, though, is quite realistic, and depicts the large dials really well. Another sign of bad quality control is that there is no mirror sticker on the rearview mirror in the interior. Another small detail that wasn't done well is that the small door lights are stickers. So, best way to display this model is with the doors closed, then.

Features:

The F-150 SuperCrew Harley Davidson Edition comes with opening hood, doors, and tailgate. The engine detail is quite good, with even some wiring depicted, but I still wish for more from Ertl. All doors open, which is quite a nice touch for a budget model. The bed is very realistic, and even has a Harley Davidson logo near the tailgate. Nicely done.

Value:

The only other F-150's are done by Welly (ugh) and Bburago (1:21). So, this is probably your best bet. Still, Ertl offers a wide variety of Ford F-150s, so the choice is wide. This is in the upper range of Ford F-150, and in some places, sells for as much as $40.

Overall:

It's big, it's tough, and it looks really cool. For many collectors, that's enough to write the check. The detail, though, is nothing special, and the lights all around the model (for which I took off four points) are done very poorly. Overall, a good model.
