It was the last version of BMW 2002 body with rear round taillights. Fitted with German-designed Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection, the first BMW fuel-injected SOHC engine, the 1991 c.c. displacement and the compression ratio of 10.0:1 produced 131 bhp capable of a top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h). Standard 4-speed manual gearbox or an optional ZF 3-speed automatic transmission was being offered for the first time. A total of 5,783 units have been built during the production.
