The '67 Shelby G.T. 350 Fastback was a transitional car. Bridging the gap between the noisy, rough riding, white only 1965 GT350, and the luxuriously appointed boulevard cruisers that would come along after, it made its debut in September of 1966. The 1967 Shelby GT350 benefited from lessons learned from the 1965 and 1966 models. Carroll Shelby recognized early on that only 500 or so GT350's could realistically be sold to enthusiasts who appreciated the raw performance, no-frills approach of the earliest cars. The learning curve for 1967 centered on what Shelby enthusiasts did not want. They did not want noise, a harsh ride, or a lack of frills. Built at Shelby's Los Angeles airport facility, the 1967 Shelby GT350 was longer, wider and heavier than earlier versions, with room between its shock towers for a big block engine.
