The '61 DB4-GT Zagato is the most highly sought after car made by Aston Martin. The beautifully sculptured aluminum Zagato body is considered by many to be the high point of Zagato design in the last 60 years. Only 19 of these voluptuous cars were produced.
Aston Martin was started in 1914. The factory has always been interested in racing its car. Of particular interest has been long distance racing like Le Mans. In 1959 the DB4GT was created in two versions. The standard version and the DB4GT Zagato. The prototype was immediately raced winning its first event driven by Sir Stirling Moss at Silverstone International Raceway setting a lap record at the same time.
The DB4GT Zagato is a lighter car, featuring a shortened chassis, 3.7 Liter high compression twin overhead cam six cylinder engine, twin ignition, and triple weber carburetors. Output was stated at 302 HP. These cars when new were tested at 0-60 in 6.1, 0-100 in 14.1 and quarter mile in 14.0 seconds.
The DB4GT was raced extensively when new primarily in England, Europe and the United States. These cars raced at Silverstone, Le Mans, and Sebring among others.
