Maisto Hummer H1 Review

Exterior Features, Quality:

Recognized by everyone to be the toughest and the baddest SUV on the road, the Hummer H1 (formerly known as the AM General Hummer) is one of my personal favorites. The wheels and tires on this model are excellent, with nice brakes, and tire inflaters-deflaters being clearly seen. The tires are marked Goodyear Wrangler MT, which is correct. The front looks great, with the instantly recognizable Hummer headlamps. One quality issue is that the turning lights aren't that well attached, so you can shake them around a bit. There is a fuel tank with nice lettering around it, and on the back, there are no flaws or problems. The rear bumper is well attached and looks good, and the lights are fine.

Interior Features, Quality:

The interior has the famous four seats, with a huge space in between. The seats are narrow on this model, which is correct. The dash looks good, with two large cupholders, although the seats and the floor feel too much like plastic. There are also some very nice touches like the leather imitation door pockets, and a huge leather imitation pocket behind the two rear seats.

Features:

This model features a moveable frontguard and four opening doors. Neither the hood nor the dutch doors in the rear work, which is very disappointing. (Received this email from a reader: I just read your review on the Maisto 1999 Hummer H1, which i own. In the review you state that the hood doesn't open. That's exactly what I thought when I first got the model, but in fact, it does open to a quite nicely detailed engine. On each side of the front of the vehicle there is a latch that holds the hood closed. Just pull the one end from the hood piece, while the other is permanently anchored to the body.)

Value:

Maisto is not the only brand that has chosen to make the Hummer. Exoto makes probably the best version, although it will cost you dearly. However, if you love this car, or you are a serious collector, go for the Exoto. W Detert Airbrush make very limited edition versions of the Hummer, with interesting paintjobs. They're hard to find, but if you come across one, it's worth the dough. This Maisto model comes out the value winner.

Overall:

I would personally say that this is definitely one of Maisto's best models. If it had an opening hood and dutch doors, it would really rank among models twice as expensive. For now, no other model can match its value, which makes it a good buy, and a good model.
