The Ford GT40 was built for one purpose: to beat Ferrari at Le Mans. After losing a bid to purchase Ferrari in 1963, Henry Ford II ordered the creation of a purpose-built racing car. The GT40 won Le Mans four consecutive times from 1966 to 1969. The 2005 Ford GT was a centennial tribute to the original, using a supercharged 5.4L V8 producing 550 horsepower. Both generations are considered among the most significant American sports cars ever made.
