Carroll Shelby transformed the base Mustang into a serious performance machine beginning in 1965. The GT350 used a high-revving 289 cubic inch V8, fiberglass hood, and competition suspension. The GT500 introduced in 1967 brought the mighty 428 Police Interceptor engine.
