The 250 GTO was the first car to utilize a spoiler, and won the prized World Manufacturer's Championship in 1962, '63 and '64! The fast, lightweight 250 GTO is admired as one of the greatest racing coupes in automotive history. Part of the lure of the GTO is its exclusivity; only 40 were built. In theory, at least 100 should have been built, as this was the number required to qualify the car for international sports car racing. In fact, the letters GTO stand for Gran Turismo Omologato, which translates into Grand Touring Homologated or "approval" for racing. It was either Enzo Ferrari's name or his inscrutable charm that enabled the rule makers to let the technicality slip by.

The Ferrari 250 series represents the pinnacle of Ferrari's classic era. The 250 GTO, produced from 1962 to 1964 in a run of just 36 units, is the most valuable automobile ever sold at auction — a 1963 example fetched $70 million in 2018. The 250 GT Berlinetta and California Spider are nearly as treasured. The 250's 3.0-liter V12 engine, designed by Gioacchino Colombo, is considered one of the great automotive powerplants.

This 1/18 scale replica of the Ferrari 250 is produced by Hot Wheels Elite to collector-grade specifications. At 1/18 scale — the most popular collector scale — the model measures approximately 10 inches in length and displays beautifully on a shelf or in a glass cabinet. Every detail — from paint finish to badging — is reproduced from measurements taken from the original vehicle.
