Malcolm Durham introduced this Vega at the Capital Raceway, in Washington DC, in 1973. This new small block Vega, Strip blazer IX, ran a 9.61 right out of the box. Malcolm Durham was one of the most popular, if not, the most popular African American drag racers in the 1960's and 1970's and this Vega was one of his best engineered cars and one of the best looking Strip Blazers. The car was built at Supercar Engineering in Hyattsville, MD. It was powered by a Durham prepped '70 engine, displacing 354 cubic inches. It raced all over the eastern seaboard and in as many match races as Malcolm could schedule.
