The 97-1/2" BBC (Bumper-to-Back-of-Cab) allowed bigger payload, longer body or trailer, good weight distribution and ease of maneuvering. Short-hood design aided down-front visibility as well, and put the 230 horsepower, 427 V-8 engine components within easy reach for maintenance and repair. As lasting tribute to the rugged engineering of the GMC version 6000 Series and companion Chevy C-65 model, is that many of these trucks are still on the job today!
