According to Dodge, the '71 Charger R/T was designed "strictly for adults" and was capable of running the 0-60 in under 7 seconds. Getting it to the end of the drag strip took under 15 seconds, by which time you would already be travelling almost 100 mph! The R/T model was the quintessential muscle car model and was really a subcategory of the Charger 500 series. It included all of the many features of the Charger 500, plus extras like heavy-duty underpinning and the Magnum V8.
