The '70 Dodge Coronet R/T with optional 426 Hemi was not, perhaps, the best-looking Mopar on the street. With its divided "loop" bumper & grilles, the Coronet looked a bit swollen. Looks can be deceiving though and it was certainly among the fastest. The Ramcharger fresh air hoodscoops came standard as part of the Hemi option that year. The nonfunctional rear quarter panel side scoops were part of the R/T package. This car was considered a street racer and drag strip performer and came with heavy-duty driveline components to handle the awesome torque and horsepower the Hemi produced. The 425 horsepower engine was nicknamed the 'elephant' engine. Unfortunately, with all this came the penalty of higher insurance premiums, and although street racing was surely a thrill, 1970 is considered the peak of the muscle car era. 1970 was aldo the last year that the Dodge Coronet model was built.
