To honor the last of the third-generation Corvette C3 to be produced with the mako shark body style, in '82 Chevrolet offered a special Collector Edition, the first Corvette with a total production run of 6,759 units at a base price in exess of $20,000. It differed from the standard Corvette by having a higher level of standard equipment. A special multicolored design called "silver beige" and incorporating "shadows" graphics and multiple pin stripes was painted on both the interior and the exterior of the car. This was the only colored pattern seen on a Corvette and the car was considered to be one of the marque's best looking ever.
The '82 Collector's Edition model had a "0" as the sixth digit of the VIN whereas the standard Corvette had an "8". It also had the first lifting rear glass hatchback and sporty aluminum wheels in a style simmilar to that of the 1967 optional "bolt on" wire-spoke wheels.
GM's first 4-speed automatic transmission, the 700R4, was the only unit offered in 1982. It featured a torque converter clutch that operated in the top three gears.
The Crossfire injection system utilized two throttle body style injectors controlled by a computer capable of making 80 adjustments per second. The exhaust system of the 1982 Corvette had been redesigned and incorporated smaller and lighter catalytic converters.

The Chevrolet Corvette is America's sports car, introduced in 1953 and continuously produced ever since — a record unmatched by any American sports car. The C1 (1953–1962) established the fiberglass body, the C2 Sting Ray (1963–1967) introduced independent rear suspension and the iconic split-window coupe, and the C3 (1968–1982) brought the shark body. Each generation represents a distinct era of American performance history, with the 1967 L88 427 and 1969 ZL1 among the most valuable examples.

This 1/18 scale replica of the 1982 Chevrolet Corvette in Silver is produced by AUTOart to collector-grade specifications. At 1/18 scale — the most popular collector scale — the model measures approximately 10 inches in length and displays beautifully on a shelf or in a glass cabinet. Every detail — from paint finish to badging — is reproduced from measurements taken from the original vehicle.
