The Shelby registry indicates only two 1966 "Super Snake" cars were ever built. One car was destroyed in an accident, leaving a sole surviving car. January 13, 2007 saw it sell at the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction for $5.5 million, making it the most expensive American car ever sold. The Super Snake has a twin supercharged 427 cid 800 hp wngine with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Carroll Shelby built it just to see how fast it was. It turned out to be a real monster with incredible performance and speeds. It was Carroll Shelby's personal automobile. "40 years later, it will still kick the tail of just about anything in the world. It was the fastest street-legal Cobra model I ever owned," said Shelby.
