Product Details Temp out of stock
When Bill Mitchell, the head of General Motors, hooked and landed a shark during a deep sea fishing holiday in Bimini, it inspired the development of the Corvette Mako Shark I concept car. The aggressive look and graded coloration of the mounted shark's head set the styling motif for the design by Larry Shinoda of a car that became known as the Corvette Shark.
From inspiration to realization took no more than a few months, the aim being to debut the Corvette Shark during a race weekend at Elkhart Lake in the summer of '61. Painted in an iridescent blue that blended into a white underbody, the Corvette Shark, like its namesake, caused a sensation when it toured the course at Elkhart Lake and was officially displayed by Chevrolet for the first time at the New York Auto Show in April, 1962.

The Chevrolet Corvette is America's sports car, introduced in 1953 and continuously produced ever since — a record unmatched by any American sports car. The C1 (1953–1962) established the fiberglass body, the C2 Sting Ray (1963–1967) introduced independent rear suspension and the iconic split-window coupe, and the C3 (1968–1982) brought the shark body. Each generation represents a distinct era of American performance history, with the 1967 L88 427 and 1969 ZL1 among the most valuable examples.
This 1/18 scale replica of the 1961 Chevrolet Corvette is produced by AUTOart to collector-grade specifications. At 1/18 scale — the most popular collector scale — the model measures approximately 10 inches in length and displays beautifully on a shelf or in a glass cabinet. Every detail — from paint finish to badging — is reproduced from measurements taken from the original vehicle.
