About the 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra
The 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra — known among enthusiasts as the "Terminator" — is one of the most significant factory Mustangs ever built. Produced by Ford's Special Vehicle Team, it was the first production Mustang to leave the factory with a supercharger under the hood: an Eaton M112 Roots-type blower bolted to a 4.6-liter DOHC V8. Ford conservatively rated it at 390 horsepower, but independent dyno tests consistently showed the engine making over 420 hp at the crank — one of the worst-kept secrets in Mustang history.
The Terminator also broke from tradition with an independent rear suspension (IRS), a setup rarely seen on Mustangs at the time, giving it handling to match its straight-line punch. The black exterior was one of the most popular choices, making it one of the most striking Mustangs of the era. Production ran for the 2003 and 2004 model years before the SVT Cobra was retired ahead of the all-new 2005 Mustang platform.
